What is the Christian's authority?

Yesterday, with Phyllis Tickle, we were given so much to think about, and I am really struggling with what seemed to be a voiced and a promoted idea - the Christian's authority HAS BEEN centered in Scripture, but now it is shifting to something el...

General Session #3

It was genius. It was amazing. Phyllis is too cool.

Too many of our youth feel like church doesn't address their brains OR their hearts. They either think it's shallow or that it's boring. They feel that it's irrelevant and unengaged. And it isn't engaging them. The entertainment focus plays only to emotions, and I love emotions, but we need to balance that out with brains and heart.

Phyllis is the kind of interdenominational (and close to interfaith) voice we need to hear. Youth don't care about denominational borders, and many don't care about national borders.

Anyway, Adam, thanks for asking. Hope you're having a good weekend.

Mike's talk was amazing. He's got a big heart and soul.

A call to progressive youth leaders, etc.

If anyone's interested, I'm going to the United Methodist luncheon today (Saturday) and you're welcome to meet up w/ me and my folks there.

How about that Shane guy last night? He was amazing. I hope we all work up the courage to live like him.

Seeing the Future: Learning to Exegete Culture for Creating Innovation in Youth Ministry

A chunk of this seminar will be spent using some tools to develop some useful stories to help us "rehearse" the future. If you have any ideas regarding where you think life is heading speak up now, it would be great to get the conversation going.

Healing and Hope for Kids Who Cut

I think this is becoming more of an epidemic. We have a lot of kids that have either struggled or experimented with it because they think this is the only thing they have control of. I think we are going to see a lot more of this in the future.

Response to the session:

Healing and Hope for Kids Who Cut

Is this a big deal in most of your ministries? I've had to deal with it a couple times, but I wanna come to this one mostly because it's important to have this kinda training BEFORE the crisis hits at youth group.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Gotta click on the actual seminar title to get to it. How stupid am I? lol

Pre-NYWC questions?

angie- Great question! YS doesn't have a shuttle running, but you can learn about shuttles on nywc.com. The cost is $11 each way if you make a reservation with our discount code.

Here's the link to the info:
http://nywc.com/hotel-and-travel/sacr...

Of course, if there is anyone willing to pick you up, that'd be great! I know coming in on Tuesday... there won't be very many people around to carpool with.

Roomates needed.

Hey Courtney!

I went ahead and booked a room at the Sheraton for my senior high guy. How many guys do you need a room for because we have room now. Let me know, if we can get four guys in the room then each guy could pay for one night it should work out great. Talk to you soon.

Got questions about Car Pool?

Bryan, let's admit that it's a bit confusing...

Carpool is this website. It's how you link up with people like you who are going to sessions that you are going to, interested in the same stuff.

We're using "ride share" for what you're describing.

The best thing I'd suggest is starting a discussion called "Ride share from Idaho to Sacramento" or something like that. I love the ride share idea!

Here's the link for that...
